The Sleeping Beauty

Birmingham Royal Ballet’s The Sleeping Beauty Review.

The Lowry

Earlier this week some of the Lowry Youth Dance Ambassadors were lucky enough to go watch a performance of Birmingham Royal Ballet’s The Sleeping Beauty.

To sum it up in three words: Breath-taking, magical and mesmerising. Not once during the whole performance did my eyes leave the stage.

Haunting, full of emotion and well thought out. Marion Tait as Carboose was brilliant. She really embodied the evil queen.

The third act,Puss In Boots (Jonathon Caguioa) and the White Cat (Callie Roberts) added some humour and showed some impressive technique.

BRB without a doubt presented another great show.

First Date Nerves

I was sat in Starbucks at Manchester Piccadilly train station waiting for my friends train to arrive. I was minding my own business, drinking my Caramel Frappe and scrolling aimlessly through my phone when I overheard a conversation that got me thinking.

Basically this couple were reminiscing about their first date. Apparently they had gone to a Food festival and had a lovely time. What caught my attention was the female admitting that their first date for her and been nerve racking. She compared it to the first day of school. Being insanely nervous that you want to be sick, being scared that you will having nothing in common with people and making no friends.

It got me thinking, it’s a great analogy. How much time do we all spend worrying before a date?

Will they like me?

Is my outfit ok?

Will the conversation flow or will it be awkward?

How do you all combat the nerves? Or have you ever been so nervous you have cancelled on a date?

Zoo Nation’s Some Like It Hip Hop

Some Like It Hip Hop is a fun and upbeat show. It’s an interesting collaboration of Hip Hop, drama, Musical theatre and live singers. It has something for everyone. The plot is easy to follow. The songs are catchy, toe tappingly so.  The show has lots of humour as well as some dark bits which deal with the stereotypes and prejudice of the Hip Hop world. By the end of the show you will be up dancing and clapping along, as the dancers manage to really pull you in and make you feel part of the show. It’s a feel good show that the whole family can enjoy.

Birmingham Royal Ballet Swan Lake- Lowry 22/09/12

Swan Lake is a romantic but tragic love story which sees Odette, a princess cursed by an evil sorcerer to spend her days as swan. At night she is allowed to be a human again. The spell can only be broken if a virgin prince swears to be with her forever. She tells Prince Siegfried, who happens to be a virgin prince, that if he refuses her she must remain a swan forever, Prince Siegfried falls madly in love with Odette. However, through a spell by the evil sorcerer, he mistakenly proposes to another woman at a party, believing that the woman is really Odette. Princess Odette feels betrayed. She threatens to kill herself and throws herself into the lake. The Prince is heartbroken and throws himself into the lake with her. In an incredibly touching moment, the two are transformed into lovers in the afterlife. BRB put on a breath-taking and spell binding show, showing once again why they are my favourite company. The sets were fantastic and the dancers really got in to the story and drew you in. I would recommend the show to everyone
